Marian

Terms of use

Last updated: 31 July 2026

Short, because the relationship is simple: you use a tool, the tool keeps your reading, and it stays yours.

Your data is yours

Everything you highlight, note, and save belongs to you. You can export all of it at any time, in Markdown, JSON or CSV, and you can delete all of it at any time. Nothing here claims a licence over what you write.

What Marian does not promise

Marian is provided as-is. It is a tool for keeping notes, not a system of record.

Specifically, and honestly:

Acceptable use

Do not use Marian to break the law, to collect other people's personal data without a basis for doing so, or to circumvent paywalls and access controls. Marian is built to respect those — it stops at a paywall rather than working around one — and using it otherwise is outside these terms.

Ending it

You can delete your account from within the extension at any time; it is immediate and irreversible. [STATE WHETHER YOU RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SUSPEND ACCOUNTS, AND ON WHAT BASIS.]

Changes

Material changes will be posted here with a new date.
